Do-support / Do-insertion (বাংলায়)

1. সংজ্ঞা

Do-support / Do-insertion: ইংরেজিতে যখন কোনো sentence-এ মূল verb দ্বারা tense বা structure প্রকাশ করা সম্ভব নয় বা emphasis প্রয়োজন হয়, তখন “do/does/did” ব্যবহার করা হয়।

2. Interrogative Sentence Formation (প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য গঠন)

Simple Present বা Past Tense-এর affirmative verb থেকে প্রশ্নবোধক বাক্য বানাতে “do/does/did” ব্যবহার করা হয়।

• Do you like coffee? (তুমি কি কফি পছন্দ কর?)
• Does she go to school? (সে কি স্কুলে যায়?)
• Did they watch the movie? (তারা কি সিনেমা দেখেছে?)

3. Negative Clause Formation (নেগেটিভ বাক্য গঠন)

Negative sentence-এ emphasis বা simple negation করতে “do not / does not / did not” ব্যবহার হয়।

• I do not like spinach. (আমি পালং শাক পছন্দ করি না।)
• He does not eat meat. (সে মাংস খায় না।)
• They did not come to the party. (তারা পার্টিতে আসে নি।)

4. Negative Inversion (নেগেটিভ ইনভারশন)

Formal or literary English-এ emphasis এর জন্য negative adverb/phrase + auxiliary inversion করা হয়।

• Never have I seen such a beautiful place. (আমি কখনো এত সুন্দর জায়গা দেখিনি।)
• Rarely does he speak in class. (সে বিরলই ক্লাসে কথা বলে।)
• Little did they know about the plan. (তারা পরিকল্পনা সম্পর্কে কমই জানত।)

5. Other Uses (অন্যান্য ব্যবহার)

• Emphasis: Affirmative sentence-এ emphasis দিতে: I do like chocolate! (আমি সত্যিই চকোলেট পছন্দ করি!)
• Short Answers: Question উত্তর দিতে: Do you play football? – Yes, I do.
• Commands (Old-fashioned / literary style): Do be careful! (সাবধান হও!)
